The story pages of this site count their readers without cookies and without any outside service. When one of those pages opens, the site’s own server notes the page, the day and the minute, whether you are on a phone, a tablet or a computer, the name of the site that linked you here and, if you came from one of my posts, which post. To tell one reader from ten refreshes it makes a short code from your network address and browser; the code changes every day and cannot be turned back into either, and the address itself is never kept. Your browser remembers, until you close the tab, which post brought you. Nothing follows you to other sites and nothing is shared or sold. The hosting company keeps ordinary server logs, as every web host does.

Safari forgets this choice after about a week without a visit. Tick it again if you come back.
